King Richard III Visitor Centre

4A St Martins,

Discover the incredible story of King Richard III, his life, death and discovery in a Leicester car park in 2012.

Using great storytelling, beautiful design and 21st century technology, the award-winning Visitor Centre tells the fascinating and moving story of the king’s life and death, and reveals one of the greatest archaeological detective stories ever told. Visitors can find out about King Richard III’s rise to power and experience the sights and sounds of medieval battle; follow the Dig Diary and see a 3D replica of King Richard’s skeleton that clearly shows his curved spine, as well as his battle injuries. The experience is completed with a visit to the actual site of King Richard’s burial in 1485, which is now preserved in a quiet, respectful setting and with a contemplative atmosphere.

The Centre is very close to Leicester Cathedral where King Richard III was re–interred in March 2015.

The King Richard III Visitor Centre is self-guided and takes approximately one and a half hours to visit. Refreshments and group lunches can be booked in advance (subject to availability). The Centre also offers two different group talks (min – 15 people, max – 50 people, subject to availability). The Visitor Centre bookings team can also help group organisers with bookings for Leicester Cathedral.
